  • I know it’s been a while, but something on the news has caught my attention and now I’m ready to rant.

Obama winning the Nobel Peace Prize = BULLSHIT!

Honestly, what has the man done?  Nominations for the prize are due in by mid-Frbruary, and he’d only been in office since 20 Jan.  I understand that part of the description of the award “may be awarded to persons or organizations that are in the process of resolving a conflict or creating peace”, but considering the ongoing wars in both Iraq and Afghanistan are probably still going to go on for a bit longer, I’d say that’s a little far-fetched.

From what I’ve read, he won it for “his promise of disarmament and diplomacy.”  The hell?!  A freaking award for a To-Do List?!  And as for the cut-back on nukes…yeah, let’s just say that from my perspective, that’s another load of bullshit.  From what I’ve seen, we’re EXPANDING the amount of money and effort into the program, which seems a bit silly to me if we’re going to be cutting it back.

Fwew…think I’m out of steam for now.  I could probably go on, but it’s still early here and I have muffins to bake before Cara wakes up.  I might put together a more coherent rant later, but I got the important pieces out for now.

    Laters!

*Disclaimer for the Odd-Visiting…Visitor* No, I’m not racist.

  • I may be a dirty liberal, but I agree with you on this one.  Obama may be a great man with a vision of peace (or not) but he sure as hell hasn’t accomplished it yet!  He’s done nothing to decrease our military presence in the Middle East, he hasn’t cut back on the nukes.

It’s kind of like giving someone an Oscar… before they’ve made the movie… just because the movie “sounds promising.”  WTF.

I can think of at least a dozen better candidates for this award.  -sigh-

    Ah well.  Such is politics.

  • To me, this Nobel Peace Prize sends us a message about how much other countries want the U.S. to change direction with foreign policy. They want us to use diplomatic power in a collaborative way rather than to use our physical power unilaterally. President Obama symbolizes the possibility of this shift.

    From the New York Times:
“Americans elected Mr. Obama because they wanted him to restore American values and leadership — and because they believed he could. The Nobel Prize, and the broad endorsement that followed, shows how many people around the world want the same thing.”

  • Awesome points!  I completely agree!
